Mamba Percussions
Jean-Claude KERINEC was born in Toulon in 1946. He was brought up amid mambo, cha-cha-cha, calypso rhytms which gave him the taste of music. For him music means feast and is the living expression of people. Very early he is interested in jazz and plays as percussionist in different trios.
In 1976, he discovers Dance. The same year, he meets Staff ELMEDDAH, a percussionist from North-Africa (Algeria). Together they create the "Mamba Percussions" group and accompany many dance workship classes. This leads them to meet world-known dancers such as Walter Nicks, Vanoye Aïkens, Bob Curtis, Lynn Mac Murray.
In 1979, they meet Vendetta Mathea, a black american modern jazz dancer, soloist and choreographer of the Walter Nicks Dance Theatre.
Thanks to the richness of their rhytmic play borrowed from many different cultures (african, arabian, brazilian, south-american or european) they become part of her dance concert and bring an extremely lively musical spirit into her choreographies.
To achieve this result, they use many instruments, traditional or unusual.
